Now, many brits may not have heard of Karneval, but I can assure you it is something you should know about and has been the best party so far in 2012. Cologne or Köln in german, is renowned for its Karneval festivities, traditions and street parties. From wednesday til sunday (just passed), people were dressed in ridiculous outfits parading the streets, drinking and having a jolly good time!
I went to visit a mate who has been nagging me to go over to Cologne for over a year. I can honestly tell you that I didn't expect much from it as a city nor as a party, but thankfully, I was proved wrong!
Cologne is also a very beautiful and cultural location. I particulary loved the cathedral's gothic charm:

If you are not lucky enough to have a friend to stay with in this fantastic city, I found some fantastic and affordable city breaks in Cologne. if you want to rent your own place for a few friends and make it a group trip, I have been told that this site offers a variety of comfortable holiday apartments.
